Jose Ignacio “Nacho” Barbero

ACR Nickname: Travisrice

Team ACR pulled off a real coup in April 2023 when adding Jose Ignacio Barbero to the roster.

Better known to the poker world as “Nacho”, Barbero has an impressive resumé. With a little under $9 million in live tournament earnings to date, the Argentine is perhaps one of Latin America’s best-known poker players.

Barbero first came to global prominence in 2010 after scooping two titles on that year’s Latin American Poker Tour. Those successes — one in Uruguay and the other in Peru — earned him the moniker “Back-To-Back Barbero”. Not to mention more than half a million US dollars in prize money.

In a past life, Nacho Barbero had enjoyed much success at an entirely different card game – Magic: The Gathering. In fact, he even represented Argentina in a national championship, and it was during this time that Barbero learned to play poker. It wouldn’t take long to transfer his talent for card games to the poker world.

Although 2010 may have been Barbero’s breakout year, he had already featured in numerous big events prior to that. As early as 2005, Nacho was finishing runner-up in a side event at the EPT Barcelona. And by 2008, he’d cashed in five events at the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas.

These days, Barbero is a regular on the high roller circuit. Although he’s won several notable events during his career, the beginning of 2023 proved to be a particularly impressive time. In the first three months of the year, Nacho made eight final tables in high roller events alone.

That run included 1st and 2nd place finishes at the Triton Super High Roller Series in Vietnam, for over a million dollars combined. But there was also a fourth place finish at the Players Championship in the Bahamas, for a career-high score of $1,551,300.

It’s not only Hold’em where Barbero excels, either. The man from Buenos Aires regularly runs deep in major Pot Limit Omaha events. During the aforementioned tear of 2023, not only did he make the final table of the $25,000 PLO Championship on the PokerGO Tour. But he won a $10,000 buy-in event for a $234,000 payday.

You can find Barbero at the ACR tables under his handle Travisrice.
