Aggressive rebuy opponents can change the whole shape of a poker tournament

In a poker tournament rebuy format, some players treat the early levels as permission to gamble wider, push thinner edges and pressure tighter stacks before the rebuy period closes. That does not make their play unbeatable. It means your response has to account for stack depth, table image, position and the value of survival after the rebuy window ends.

The first adjustment is patience, not passivity. Loose-aggressive players create larger pots with weaker ranges, so your value hands gain importance. Hands like strong pairs, suited broadways and big ace combinations perform better when opponents are willing to continue with dominated cards. The mistake is trying to out-maniac the maniac. That usually turns your range into the same loose mess you are trying to exploit.

Position matters even more in rebuy events. Calling raises out of position with marginal hands gives aggressive players room to keep firing. In position, you can control pot size, let them bluff and make better river decisions. When they are opening too often, three-bet more with hands that can stand pressure. Do not only three-bet monsters, or your adjustment becomes too obvious.

The rebuy clock should guide your risk level. Early, a covered player may be happy to shove light because another entry is available. Near the end of the rebuy period, stacks usually tighten as players try to carry chips into freezeout play. That is when well-timed pressure becomes more valuable.

The key is controlled aggression. Let reckless players build pots when you have real equity. Make them pay for weak opens. Avoid ego battles. In rebuy tournaments, the player who survives the chaos with chips and discipline usually owns the better seat once the gambling stops.
