How The Venom Became A Poker Powerhouse
A Tale of Chips and Champions

Imagine sitting at your computer, your heartbeat syncing with the shuffle of cards, the virtual felt of the table an ocean of possibilities, and the prize pool — a life-changing sum just waiting to be claimed. Welcome to the gripping narrative of the Venom at ACR Poker.  A record-breaking tournament that now boasts a whopping $12.5 million guaranteed prize pool.

But let’s start from the beginning, shall we? Join us as we reminisce about how the Venom transformed from a bold idea into the biggest event in online poker.

Starting Hand: The 2019 Debut

Step back to 2019, a time when The Venom as we now know it was just a bold gleam in ACR Poker’s eye. Sure, the US-facing poker site had hosted its share of $1,000,000 GTD Venom tournaments, but ACR Poker was ready to make waves, command headlines, and break records.

The site decided to add some serious bite to the Venom by offering a staggering $5 million guaranteed prize pool. The poker community watched, waited, and then — boom! — 2,076 competitors dove into the inaugural $5 Million Venom in July 2019.

When the dust settled, Rafael Moraes from Brazil, known on the felt as ‘TheBigKid’, pocketed $1,049,283 of the $5,190,000 final prize pool. And here’s a kicker — his prize was in Bitcoin.  Not only did he get paid instantly, but that feat showcased the power of Bitcoin and earned the Winning Poker Network the Guinness World Record for the largest cryptocurrency payment in an online poker tournament.

But the $5 Million Venom proved to be a mere warm-up. In the chill of December 2019, Venom returned and boy, did it return with gusto. This time, the guaranteed prize pool was 20% larger at an impressive $6,000,000.  And thanks to 2,558 entrants, the final prize pool hit a hefty $6,395,000. ‘Galodoido13’ ultimately struck gold with a seven-figure sum of $1,037,960 for finishing first.

And let’s not forget the introduction of cyclones. ACR Poker’s innovative take on satellite tournaments added a whirlwind of excitement to the tournament and made it even easier and more affordable for players to secure Venom seats.

Let’s zoom back to August 2020.  During a year marked by the COVID-19 pandemic, when unprecedented global challenges pushed many to seek solace and entertainment remotely, ACR Poker provided an extraordinary opportunity with its biggest Venom to date.  With a $7 million guaranteed prize pool, the tourney not only gave players an extra reason to stay in but also offered a golden chance to win life-changing money amidst global upheaval.

Thanks to 3,872 competitors fueling the action, the $7 Million GTD Venom soared to an eye-popping $9,680,000. Now, picture this: TRT-Vitor and FORRESTRANFAR, two players who probably walked in hoping for a good run, ended up turning their poker dreams into reality, earning astonishing amounts of $1,394,821 and $1,282,666, respectively. They didn’t just laugh all the way to the bank; they practically danced down the streets of Fort Knox! Becoming millionaires in a matter of days, they reminded us all why we shuffle up and deal in the first place.

In January 2021, ACR upped the Venom ante yet again with a hefty $8 million guaranteed prize pool. Now, imagine this: 3,774 entrants from around the globe, all logging on, each dreaming of poker stardom and a seven-figure payday. As the cards flew and the virtual chips stacked, the prize pool swelled to an astonishing $9,435,000, the second biggest one yet.

In the end, it was Ramon ‘PORKONOMAR’ Kropmann from Brazil who bested the competition. His prize? A cool $1,113,330. Talk about starting the new year with a bang!

The fifth Venom tournament, which ACR Poker hosted in July and August 2021, was one for the record books. They pulled out all the stops with a jaw-dropping $10,000,000 guaranteed prize pool — their very first foray into the realm of eight-figure prize pools. Obviously, it did not disappoint. The tournament attracted a whopping 3,930 entrants, all eager to get their hands on that sweet, sweet cash. Interestingly, this ambitious event had a $175,000 overlay.

But the massive prize pool was just part of the story. The lineup of poker royalty that graced this tournament was nothing short of spectacular. We’re talking big names like ACR Pros Chris Moneymaker, Jon Van Fleet, Jeff Boski, Ebony Kenney, Drew Gonzalez, Michael Loncar, Robert Kuhn, Jon Pardy, and Vanessa Kade. That’s enough star power to light up the Las Vegas Strip, but you didn’t need to leave home to take it all in.

Now, amidst this All-Star ensemble and a sea of hopefuls, it was California’s own Sohale Khalili, going by the moniker ‘BabyBowser’, who emerged as the champion of champions. This poker virtuoso danced through the Venom to snag a life-changing $1,514,000.

With another jaw-dropping $10,000,000 guaranteed prize pool, the January 2022 Venom wasn’t just another day at the office. Imagine the excitement as 3,782 players piled in, each eyeing a slice of that gigantic pie. But here’s the kicker: there was a $545,000 overlay, sweetening the pot and giving players even more bang for their buck – talk about a good deal getting even better!

Then came the cherry on top: the introduction of the Staking feature. Suddenly, you didn’t need to be a card shark to get a piece of the action. This small innovation paid big dividends, as it allowed players to invest in others by buying parts of their tournament buy-ins.  Imagine winning big without ever having to play a single hand.  Of course, the staking feature, which remains popular to this day, has two sides, giving players the chance to invest in other players or sell a piece of their own action to fund their dreams.

When the dust settled in the $10 Million Venom, it was Stefan ‘BoBomb14’ Nemetz who became ACR Poker’s latest millionaire. The Austrian pocketed a cool $1,180,000 for first place.

The summer of 2022 wasn’t just sizzling because of the sun. ACR Poker was turning 21, and like any newly-minted 21-year-old, they knew the way to celebrate was with something big. Enter, the $10,000,000 GTD Venom tournament – a testament to their coming of age in the poker world.

The party was in full swing as a wave of 4,017 players joined in, bringing enthusiasm and high hopes. It felt like every chip clink knew it was part of something special, as the prize pool tickled the ceiling and went beyond, landing at a hefty $10,042,500. Boom! Just like that, history was made. ACR Poker had not only thrown the ultimate birthday bash but had also outdone itself by hosting the biggest tournament in its history.

How did they pull it off? Well, it might have been those free satellite tournaments – little golden tickets for the hopefuls, giving everyone a shot at the big time without the big spend. And wouldn’t you know it, when the final card hit the table, it was ‘Manuma29’ from Argentina who must have felt like the confetti was just for him, bagging $1,169,951 for first place. Talk about a birthday present!

ACR’s $10 Million GTD Venom returned in January 2023 to much fanfare. This time, ACR Poker awarded $2.5 million worth of seats or 1,015 entries in all. Yet despite the site’s generosity and the inclusion of more Mega Satellites, the tournament only saw 3,646 entries, resulting in a handsome $885,000 overlay. When it was all said and done, Estonia’s own ‘BochkarevRU’ clinched the top spot and walked away $1,200,000 richer.

The July-August 2023 rendition of the $10 Million GTD Venom brought about a remarkable development. With only 3,522 entries, the event saw its largest overlay ever—a considerable $1,195,000. That’s bigger than the prize pool of most online poker tournaments!  It’s the kind of cash that would make even the likes of Warren Buffett do a double take.

As the last card was dealt, New York pro Brandon Lulov, known as ‘S3L3NAGOM3ZZ’ on ACR Poker, went home with a record-breaking $1,577,970. Notably, Jon Van Fleet, better known as “Apestyles” and a celebrated ACR Pro at the time of the tournament, secured the sixth spot, scoring a cool $326,370.

High-stakes pros weren’t left behind either, as Chris Hunichen, playing as ‘2Rich2Care’, clinched third place and earned a sweet $838,960. Former psychologist turned poker pro Michael ‘YoungHoodie’ Perrone finished seventh for $238,250, and Michael Miller, a WSOP Circuit ring winner, also made a significant mark by taking the eighth spot for a solid $173,920.

The tale of the Venom continues. The next episode arrives in April 2024, presenting an eye-watering $12.5 Million GTD prize pool, especially since it will crown at least three millionaires.  Yet the Venom isn’t just broadening the online poker landscape; it’s transforming into a narrative filled with unique, eventful chapters.

Are you set for what lies ahead? Make sure to secure your spot and let your skills write the next lines in the Venom’s rich story. Remember, each hand in the Venom tournament has the potential to carve your legacy in poker history.
