Six players hit the rail before the first day ended on July 16
The 2024 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event has reached its thrilling climax, with just three players remaining in the hunt for the coveted championship bracelet and a $10 million first-place prize.
This year’s tournament shattered records, attracting a massive field of 10,112 entries and generating a colossal prize pool of $94,041,600. With $20 million still up for grabs, the final three players have already secured at least $4 million each for their impressive achievements.
Leading the pack is online poker legend Niklas’ Lena900′ Astedt, who holds a commanding chip lead with 223,000,000 chips, representing a substantial 37% of the total chips in play. The 33-year-old Swedish poker pro has already amassed nearly $3.9 million in live tournament earnings, but his online prowess is truly legendary, with reported winnings exceeding $48 million.
Hot on Astedt’s heels is Jonathan Tamayo, who bagged up the second-largest stack despite starting the day as a short stack. The 38-year-old Texan has proven his mettle in previous Main Events, finishing 21st in 2009 and 78th in 2015. With this deep run, Tamayo is poised to significantly boost his career earnings, which currently stand at $2,307,668.
Rounding out the final three is Jordan Griff, a 30-year-old data and analytics supply chain manager for Meta. The lone amateur among the final nine, Griff’s poker journey is a remarkable underdog story. Despite facing elimination on Day 8, he managed to survive and now finds himself on the brink of an eight-figure payday. This is Griff’s third Main Event appearance, and his first cash finish.
