The five-time WSOP bracelet winner is on another strong run this year
Nick Schulman has taken an early lead in the Global Poker Index (GPI) Player of the Year race after a strong start to 2025. The five-time World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet winner and well-known poker commentator has put together an impressive string of results, including deep runs and a major victory inside the PokerGO Studio.
Schulman kicked off the year in dominant fashion, winning the PGT Last Chance opening event, a $10,000 buy-in tournament that earned him $283,050. His momentum carried into the PGT $1 Million Championship and the $5,000 PGT Kickoff, where he secured runner-up finishes in both events. He continued to build on his success at the PokerGO Cup, where he finished fourth and sixth in separate events.
His most notable run came at the PGT Mixed Games series, where he delivered consistent top finishes. He placed third in the $5,000 buy-in Event #2 for $74,000, followed by another third-place result in the $10,000 8-Game Mix for $110,400. Schulman’s biggest score in the series came in the $15,000 Dealer’s Choice event, where he finished second and collected $190,125. The only player who stood in his way of victory was poker legend Daniel Negreanu.
Kristen Foxen is keeping the race competitive, trailing Schulman by just 38 points. She has already claimed two PokerGO victories, including a $10,000 PGT Kickoff event in January and a $15,000 PokerGO Cup event in February. Meanwhile, Joey Weissman sits in third place after a standout performance in the PokerGO Cup, where he won one event and finished runner-up in three others.
With the year still in its early stages, Schulman’s lead is far from secure. With plenty of high-stakes action ahead, the race for Player of the Year remains wide open.
