The British pro added $3.4 million winning the $200,000 Short Deck event at Triton
Stephen Chidwick has added another major win to his résumé, taking down the $200,000 Short Deck event at the Triton Poker Series in Jeju, South Korea, for $3,455,000. The victory is the second-largest score of his career and pushes the British pro’s live tournament earnings past $71.7 million. That total places him second on The Hendon Mob’s All-Time Money List, trailing only Bryn Kenney, who leads with more than $78 million.
The event drew 61 entries, creating a $12.2 million prize pool. Chidwick outlasted a stacked field that included some of the biggest names in the game, defeating Malaysia’s Wai Kiat Lee heads-up to capture the title. Lee collected $2,465,000 for his runner-up finish, while Rene Van Krevelen of the Netherlands finished third for $1,591,000.
Chidwick entered the final table with a commanding chip lead and used his stack to control the action. Several top contenders fell along the way, including Elton Tsang, who exited in fifth, and Canada’s Daniel Dvoress, who cashed for $971,000 after running into Chidwick’s Broadway straight. Other deep runs came from Esti Wang in fourth place for $1,234,000 and Richard Yong, who made the final table but departed early for $465,000.
Despite his dominance, Chidwick was characteristically modest in his post-event remarks, attributing the result to good fortune rather than superior skill. He noted that variance in Short Deck is particularly high, yet he has now won three Triton titles in the format, an impressive achievement given his established reputation in No Limit Hold’em and Pot Limit Omaha.
With this latest win, Chidwick continues to solidify his standing as one of the most consistent and successful players in poker history. His momentum on the Triton stage also positions him as a serious contender to eventually challenge Kenney for the top spot on the all-time earnings list.
