With WSOPC win number 12, Porbandarwala is staking his claim in the poker world
Soheb Porbandarwala dominated on the final day of the 2024 World Series of Poker Circuit (WSOPC) Horseshoe Hammond $1,700 No-Limit Hold ’em main event. The Connecticut pro overcame the 986-player field to reach the final table with a huge chip lead and scored every knockout but one on the final day of play on his way to victory.
The huge turnout saw the tournament easily surpass the $1 million guarantee, with $1,493,790 in total prizes paid out to the top 148 finishers. Eight contenders remained on the final day, all guaranteed to take home at least $32,639.
That’s what bracelet winner and three-time WPT main event champion Brian Altman would earn after making a hero call before his pair of Jacks fell to Porbandarwala’s set of fours he hit on the river.
Porbanderwala then made a diamond royal flush after pushing all-in preflop with A-10 suited vs. Eric Adelstein’s (7th for $41,489) pocket eights to scoop almost two-thirds of the chips in play.
He then eliminated Hussain Sajwani (6th for $53,259), Richard Bai (5th for $69,039) and Adam Greenberg (4th for $90,360). Brad Coultas had the only other elimination of the day after his A-Q would beat Jonathan Seely’s (3rd for $119,402) pocket threes, setting up the showdown.
Porbandarwala held more than a 5:1 chip lead over Coultas, and all those chips were soon in the middle as Coultas shoved with A-7 offsuit vs. Porbandarwala’s A-2 suited. The champion paired his deuces on the flop, which was good enough to win the pot and the title. Coultas took home $159,277 as runner-up.
Porbandarwala earned his biggest career cash of $257,725 and his 12th career WSOPC ring, increasing his earnings to over $2.4 million.
