The Midwest circuit grinder was 70 years old
The poker world is mourning the loss of Mark Martin, a respected player in the Midwest circuit, who passed away at 70. Known for his success in tournament poker, Martin built a strong reputation over the years, securing two WSOP Circuit titles and several deep runs in major events.
Martin earned $283,025 in career tournament winnings, according to The Hendon Mob. His biggest cash came in 2024 when he finished runner-up in the WSOP Circuit Choctaw Event #3: $500 The Gargantuan, taking home $46,957. Though he narrowly missed the title in that event, he had already claimed two WSOP Circuit gold rings.
His first victory came in 2020 when he won the $400 No-Limit Hold’em event at Hard Rock Tulsa for $12,995. Two years later, he triumphed in the $250 Seniors Event at WSOP Circuit Choctaw Durant, adding $17,492 to his earnings.
Beyond WSOP events, Martin’s most memorable win was in 2014 when he topped a field of 262 players at the RunGood Poker Series (RGPS) Downstream Casino, securing a $36,218 payday. His consistent performances made him a familiar face in regional poker tournaments, where he was respected for both his skill and sportsmanship.
Born in Kansas in 1954, Martin attended Cowley County Community College and later settled in Burden with his wife, Debra R. Weaver. Together, they ran businesses in agriculture, including a hog consignment farm and cattle ranchiIn 2017, he fulfilled a lifelong dream of building a lake at their home, a reflection of his love for nature.
