The prize pool surpassed $2.7 million and crushed the $1 million guarantee
Nick Murray claimed the title at the 2024 Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) Michigan State Poker Championship Main Event, hosted at FireKeepers Casino Hotel. Held from October 10-13, the event drew an impressive 2,819 entries, creating a prize pool of over $2.7 million—more than doubling the $1 million guarantee. Players from all over the country gathered to compete, making it the second-largest MSPT event ever held at FireKeepers.
The $1,110 buy-in Main Event saw intense competition, with the final three players reaching a deal based on their chip counts, a practice known as the Independent Chip Model (ICM). This arrangement determines prize distribution, allowing players to secure payouts proportional to their remaining chips. After the deal, David Evans took third place with $212,849, and Nicola DiTrapani finished second, winning $295,492.
Murray, a Michigan native, secured his first-ever MSPT title and a career-best payday of $295,494. His victory capped off an exciting tournament weekend at FireKeepers, a venue known for its dedication to hosting top-tier poker events.
Steven Senk, VP of Gaming Operations at FireKeepers Casino, expressed pride in the tournament’s success, crediting the casino’s staff and dealers for creating a welcoming and exciting environment. The event marked another milestone for FireKeepers, solidifying its reputation as a top poker destination in the Midwest.
With Murray’s win, FireKeepers continues to attract poker players year-round, hosting daily games and special tournaments. The next MSPT event is scheduled for May 2025, promising more action for poker enthusiasts.
