Tyler Barnes gets in the way of the formidable WSOP Circuit grinder
The World Series of Poker Circuit (WSOPC) has had many big headlines recently, including Ari Engel winning his record 17th ring online and Daniel Lowery picking up his 15th ring at WSOPC Cherokee. Maurice Hawkins, the former WSOPC ring leader, nearly won a 16th ring this week after reaching the final table at the $1,700 buy-in WSOPC Cherokee Main Event. He came close, but couldn’t pull it off.
The WSOPC Cherokee Main Event featured a $2.5 million prize pool and a stacked final table, including Michael Wang (4th for $136,052), Adam Hendrix (5th for $104,413), and Andrew Moreno (6th for $80,857). Hawkins finished in third place to take home $178,870 as Tyler Barnes would outlast the 1,659 entrants to take the $383,856 top prize and his second Circuit ring.
Barnes won his first ring at a Cherokee event in 2021 and more than tripled his previous live earnings with his latest cash, eliminating all nine players at the final table.
Several well-known pros also won Circuit rings at the WSOPC Cherokee series. Two-time bracelet winner David Jackson took his second Circuit ring after winning Event #6: $400 No-Limit Hold ’em 6-Handed and the $55,109 first-place prize.
Kyle Cartwright would win his ninth ring and take home $111,305 in Event #9: $1,100 No-Limit Hold ’em, and David Yue would outlast 3,180 entrants in Event #2: $400 No-Limit Hold ’em for $135,366.
Other Cherokee winners include Brandon Goldben in Event #10: $400 No-Limit Hold ’em for $41,444, Dennis Carlson, who won Event #4: $400 Seniors Event to take home $55,641, and Dustin Goldklang, who took the top prize in Event #18: $2,200 No-Limit Hold ’em High Roller for $80,577.
