The cash was his biggest tourney win to date and adds to his two WSOPC rings
Matt Porter secured the biggest win of his career at the latest Major Series of Poker Tour (MSPT) stop, taking down the $1,110 buy-in No-Limit Hold’em event at Riverside Casino in Iowa. The victory earned him $106,078 and his first MSPT title, marking a milestone in his poker journey. With this win, Porter’s career earnings have surpassed $250,000, adding to his growing list of accomplishments, which includes two World Series of Poker Circuit (WSOPC) rings.
The tournament drew 618 entries, more than doubling its initial $300,000 guarantee to create a prize pool of $608,630. The top 67 players made the money, with a minimum cash of $1,800. Several well-known names fell before reaching the final table, including MSPT Hall of Famer Aaron Johnson and two-time tour winner Angela Jordison. Other deep runs came from Umut Ozturk, Rob Wazwaz, and Rich Alsup, but none managed to advance to the final stretch.
Porter entered the final table in second chip position and wasted little time making an impact. Jake Wilding exited first in ninth place, followed by Dustin Hoffman in eighth. Porter claimed his first elimination by knocking out Varun Uppal in seventh, and shortly after, Dave Grandin finished in sixth. A critical moment came when Porter tripled up with pocket aces, launching him into the chip lead.
From there, he maintained control, eliminating Jeff Petronack in fifth, Mark Lafata in fourth, and Carl Carodenuto in third. Heads-up play against Ramon Ziadeh started with Porter holding a nearly 2:1 chip advantage. As midnight approached, the two struck a deal, with Ziadeh taking home $100,000 and Porter securing $106,078 as the official champion.
The MSPT now moves to Minnesota’s Running Aces Casino, where its next main event is set to take place from April 10-13.
