The Swiss poker pro bounces back after coming close to winning the event last year
Marc Sen, a Swiss poker player, has achieved redemption by winning the 2024 WPT Prime Liechtenstein Main Event, just one year after finishing as the runner-up in the same tournament. Last year, Sen fell short against David Kozma, securing a second-place finish out of 1,664 entries and walking away with $193,200. Despite the impressive payout, coming so close to victory without taking the title was a tough pill to swallow.
Determined to turn things around, Sen returned to the Grand Casino Liechtenstein, where the 2024 edition of WPT Prime was held. This time, he faced a field of 1,411 entrants and emerged victorious, securing the top prize of $236,466 and earning a coveted seat in the WPT World Championship at Wynn Las Vegas.
The final table of the tournament was packed with excitement. Italian player Leandro Dirlewanger entered the eight-handed finale with a massive chip lead of 29,350,000, while Sen sat in second place with 41 big blinds. Early on, Dirlewanger knocked out Phuong Nguyen, setting the stage for intense competition. Dirlewanger continued to dominate, eliminating several players, including Manfred Eberhard Frick and Matej Michalek.
However, Sen’s fortunes began to turn as he doubled through Dirlewanger and eventually overtook him in the chip count. Sen’s aggression and strategic play gave him the edge, allowing him to chip up and take control of the final table. When it came down to heads-up play, Sen held a substantial lead over Dirlewanger and maintained pressure throughout.
On the 129th hand, Sen sealed his victory by pushing all-in with king-nine, defeating Dirlewanger’s queen-eight. The win marks a satisfying conclusion to Sen’s journey after last year’s near-miss, and he now joins the ranks of WPT Prime champions.
