Shak has been a regular on PokerGo tables, but never won a title until now
Although he’s had massive success on the high roller circuit, including multiple final tables at the US Poker Open, the PokerGO Cup and the Poker Masters, Dan Shak had never won at the PokerGO studio. That changed last Thursday, when he took down the $10,000 PokerGO Mixed Games series big bet mix event.
The $133,200 first-place prize brings the 64-year-old’s career earnings to more than $14.5 million after he topped the 37-player field to secure over a third of the $370,000 prize pool.
Shak’s unlikely win saw him enter the final table as the short stack and survive multiple all-ins. To make it even more complicated, he had to compete against Jerry Wong, Jeremy Ausmus and Poker Hall of Famer Daniel Negreanu to get the victory.
Wong conquered the $10,000 Triple Draw event a few days earlier and finished seventh in the $10,000 Dealer’s Choice before securing fifth place for $29,600 in this event.
Negreanu took home $55,500 for third place, reaching his seventh final table this year and fourth in this series. He finished fifth in the $5,000 H.O.R.S.E., fourth in the $10,000 H.O.R.S.E., and second in the $10,000 Dealer’s Choice event. His 1,660 Card Player of the Year points put him in 10th place overall.
Ausmus had hoped to improve on his second-place finish in the $10,000 H.O.R.S.E. and had Shak on the ropes for a while until his opponent doubled up and closed out the win a short time later. Ausmus would take home $88,800 as runner-up.
