Labor Day Weekend became very lucrative for the player
It was a great Labor Day weekend for Cleveland poker fans, as the Mid-Stakes Poker Tour’s recent stop at JACK Casino almost doubled the $500,000 tournament guarantee. Jonathan Lewis won $176,681 after taking down the tour’s most recent event on the banks of Lake Erie.
A prize pool of $929,700 was generated by the 960 players who paid the $1,110 entry fee in the three days from August 31 to September 2. The remaining players returned on Sunday, with Lewis winning the trophy and his first-place prize after 15 hours of play. The top 99 players took home prizes of at least $2,231.
Some notable names to cash in the tournament were WSOP bracelet winner Katie Kopp (24th for $6,414), Don Carlton (10th for $13,015), MSPT Hall of Famer Rob WazWaz (42nd for $3,160), and the leader in the points race for MSPT Season 14 Player of the Year, Umut Ozturk (33rd for $4,090).
This is the first-ever MSPT title for Lewis. George Janssen (3rd for $79,861) was also at the final table and seeking his second title.
The MSPT also hosts an event at The Venetian in Las Vegas this week. September 6 will be the first day of a $1,110 buy-in, $250,000 guaranteed event, and on September 8, the first of two Day 1’s in a $400,000 guaranteed $1,600 buy-in tournament will kick off. Two $100 buy-in satellites will take place the night before each event.
The two MSPT-branded events are included in The Venetian’s Deepstack Extravaganza series that commenced on August 28, with $2.5 million in guaranteed prizes in the 50 tournaments running through October 1.
