Elvis Bersai Lopez-Ambrosio was allegedly involved in the Lopez Human Smuggling Organization
A poker player known to fans of Hustler Casino Live as “Pepe” is now facing serious criminal charges unrelated to his time at the table. Elvis Bersai Lopez-Ambrosio, a frequent participant in high-stakes streamed poker games, has been indicted by the US. Attorney’s Office in New Mexico for his alleged role in a large-scale human smuggling and money laundering operation.
According to federal prosecutors, Lopez-Ambrosio was involved in what officials call the “Lopez Human Smuggling Organization.” The group is accused of coordinating the illegal transport of Guatemalan nationals into the United States through Mexico and New Mexico.
Prosecutors allege that Lopez-Ambrosio worked with Mexican smugglers and gave instructions to associates in the US to open bank accounts that would receive payments from undocumented individuals being smuggled. Those funds were then allegedly laundered by being converted into real estate or sent back to Guatemala to associates of the group’s alleged leader, Ronaldo Galindo Lopez-Escobar.
Lopez-Ambrosio could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted. The US Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control has also imposed financial sanctions and frozen assets linked to members of the organization.
On the poker side, “Pepe” gained a reputation for playing aggressively and taking large risks on Hustler Casino Live. His financial behavior at the table is now under new scrutiny, given the nature of the accusations. However, authorities have not indicated that his poker activity was directly tied to the alleged criminal enterprise.
Hustler Casino Live has dealt with multiple controversies over the past few years, but so far, there’s been no official statement from the show regarding Lopez-Ambrosio’s indictment. The investigation and criminal proceedings are ongoing.
