The actor and charity poker organizer passed away on Valentine’s Day
The actor best known for his role as “Rafterman” in Full Metal Jacket, Kevyn Major Howard, has passed away at the age of 69. He died on February 14 in Las Vegas after battling a respiratory illness for several weeks. His death was confirmed by friends and members of the poker community, where he was also well known.
Howard gained recognition in Hollywood through roles in films such as Death Wish II and Sudden Impact, along with appearances in the television series Miami Vice. Beyond acting, he was an accomplished photographer and a dedicated supporter of autism-related charities, particularly through his involvement in the poker world.
For years, Howard was a familiar face at Ante 4 Autism, an annual charity poker event that raises money for autism-related organizations. Set to host its 17th edition in July 2025, the tournament has raised over $1.4 million since its inception. Howard played an active role in the event, often sharing the tables with notable figures like poker pros Jen Harman and Erik Seidel, as well as celebrities from outside the poker world.
Friends and fellow poker players expressed their condolences and shared memories of Howard. Poker pro Karina Jett described him as a strong supporter of Ante 4 Autism, while 2004 World Series of Poker champion Greg Raymer recalled his kindness and warmth. Billy Hayes, whose life inspired Midnight Express, also paid tribute, saying Howard would be missed at the tables and beyond.
Howard is survived by his wife, Tiffanie, stepdaughter Kayla, brother Kelsey, and sister Kim. His contributions to film, photography, and charity will be remembered by those who knew him.
