The $1.5 million win marks a career high for Guilbert

France’s Johan Guilbert finally checked off the biggest item on his poker résumé by winning the $25,000 GGMillion$ Single Day Turbo at WSOP Paradise, earning his first World Series of Poker bracelet and $1,534,645 in prize money.

The high-speed event drew 287 entries at Atlantis Paradise Island in the Bahamas and easily cleared its $5 million guarantee, building a prize pool of $7,318,500. An unscheduled second day was needed to finish the tournament, and Guilbert made the most of it.

Six players returned to play down to a winner, with Guilbert starting in the middle of the pack. Momentum shifted almost immediately. He scored an early knockout and then won a key pot against Michael Moncek, leaving the American short before finishing him off moments later.

The defining hand came in a three-way all-in where Guilbert held pocket aces. He doubled through chip leader Iago Sturzeneker and eliminated Moncek in the same hand, swinging the tournament firmly in his direction. Guilbert stayed in control from there, sending Sturzeneker out in fourth and Ramiro Petrone out in third.

Despite holding a commanding chip lead heading into heads-up play, Guilbert admitted past near-misses weighed on his mind. He had previously lost three WSOP heads-up battles and expected another close call.

Instead, he closed it out against Eelis Parssinen, first catching a bluff and then winning the final all-in to seal the victory. Parssinen earned $1,043,400 for second place.

This time, the gold on his wrist was the one that truly mattered.
