The long-time pro bounces back from sure defeat to surge ahead
One colossal pot was all Doug Polk needed to change his luck during a Sunday live stream from The Lodge Card Club, a poker room he co-owns outside Austin, Texas. He was down almost $200,000 about eight hours into the $100/$200 game when he suddenly went from the biggest loser to the biggest winner in an instant.
Polk was all in with Q-C, 10-C for over $100,000 late into the stream on a 9-H, 8-D, Q-D flop vs. the 8-S, 8-H of Tesla. They agreed to run it twice, with the 10-S coming on the turn and 5-S on the river for the flopped set.
However, the J-S on the river on the second run gave Polk a straight and a split of the $307,000 pot. The three-time World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet winner’s luck would continue against Tesla but for an even bigger pot.
Tesla moved all-in for $236,625, holding A-H, 5-H vs. Polk’s 3-H, 3D with the board showing 3-C, J-S, 4-D. Polk snap-called with his set, creating a pot of $509,550. Again, the players decided to run the river twice, but the 10-H on the first and K-D on the second run gave Polk the second biggest pot in The Lodge live stream history.
The considerable pot allowed Polk from being down almost $200,000 to finish the session $182,625 ahead and become the game’s biggest winner. Polk lost several big pots before his big win and had a few failed bluff attempts. One hand saw him holding A-K and flop trip kings, only to lose to a runner-runner straight, indicating that it just wasn’t his night. However, all that matters in poker is the final result.
