Daniel Negreanu finds his rhythm as he starts to play the 2024 poker circuit
Pot-Limit Omaha (PLO) fans worldwide have been following the 2024 PokerGO Tour PLO Series that started last week. After crowning the first two champions on Thursday and Friday, the PGT continued the festival featuring the four-card game, with Saturday seeing Daniel Negreanu resume his outstanding start to the season after beating some of the top players in the Omaha game.
The Poker Hall of Famer examined his “year in poker” at the end of 2023 and concluded that he was playing too much poker, especially at last summer’s World Series of Poker, and not giving himself enough time to rest and regroup. Negreanu has adapted his playing schedule, entering fewer tournaments in 2024, which has paid off so far, especially in Saturday’s Event #3 $5000 Pot-Limit Omaha event.
Negreanu had a slight chip lead over Anuj Agarwal at the six-player final table, with Bruno Furth not far behind. After Curtis Muller eliminated Lance Patel ($29,500) in sixth place, Negreanu extended his lead by sending Dylan Weisman ($38,350) home in fifth place.
Agarwal sent Muller ($50,150) packing in fourth place before he and Negreanu would bring it to heads-up action after both taking Furth’s ($64,900) stack, with Negreanu getting most of those chips.
Negreanu had a more than 2:1 chip lead to start heads-up play, and they battled for almost an hour in the PokerGO Studios. On the final hand, Negreanu pushed out a three-bet with A-K-Q-9 after Agarwal led with a 750K bet holding A-5-4-3 double-suited. A jack paired the board on the river to give Negreanu the pot and the $147,000 prize for his second win and eighth cash of 2024. Agarwal took home $91,450 for second place.
