Engel keeps his record alive and adds another gold ring to his collection
The competition continues to be challenging at the top of the World Series of Poker Circuit (WSOPC) all-time wins leaderboard and the gold ring race over the past several days. Ari Engel improved his lead after taking his 17th gold ring in a recent WSOPC Michigan online event. The $500 No-Limit Hold ’em 500 8-max tournament drew 48 players as Engel would emerge from the pack to win.
His 50th tournament championship moves Engel to nearly $8.9 million in career earnings, but most importantly, it gave him some breathing room over his closest competitors for the gold ring title.
Daniel Lowery also added a gold ring to his collection at the WSOP Circuit North Carolina event at Harrah’s Cherokee. He picked up his 15th gold ring after beating 3,577 players in a $400 monster stack tournament to win $148,416. He has over $3.15 million in career earnings and is in a three-way tie in the group, trailing Engel with Joshua Reichard and Maurice Hawkins.
“The chase is real; we’ve been taking it serious,” Lowery told reporters after his win. “I’m very real with myself about poker, and I feel like I played amazing this week.” Lowery also captured the essence of the WSOP Circuit gold ring competition, adding, “I said a long time ago, some guys said it didn’t matter, but it matters to be number one, one time, so I’m trying. We’ll see who can get there.”
Another pro increasing their WSOP Circuit gold ring display in North Carolina was Kyle Cartwright after he won the $1,100 buy-in No-Limit Hold ’em tournament over 600 entries to take his ninth piece of hardware. The $111,305 score takes him above $3.1 million in career earnings.
