The player from Tennessee is getting his poker hands back into the action
After almost 20 years away from the poker table, Klint Griffin of Tennessee secured his first World Series of Poker Circuit (WSOPC) Ring. He outlasted 395 players to win the $1,700 buy-in Main Event at the WSOPC Horseshoe Tunica festival. The substantial turnout for the event created a $588,425 prize pool, with Griffin taking the lion’s share of $127,307 for first place.
Griffin topped his biggest tournament cash of 3,381 won at the WSOPC Harrah’s Cherokee Main Event in August 2023. He made his comeback last fall, cashing in several WSOPC North Carolina tournaments through the end of the year. Griffin participated mostly in cash games when he was an active grinder in the 2000s, with one live tournament cash in 2005.
Griffin was fourth in the chip race when play started on Day 3 but took the lead among the six players remaining a short time later. Drew Dunaway was the first player eliminated on the final day, securing $22,160 for his sixth-place showing. Phuong Nguyen followed him to the rail in fifth place for $29,600.
Griffin reduced the field to three after his A-K suited won the race against Trace Henderson’s pocket sevens, eliminating him in fourth place with $40,272. The champion took a huge chip lead after his pocket fives held up against Billy Dickerson’s ($55,792) pocket fours, setting up the showdown with Lucian Camargo Silveira.
Griffin quickly scooped the remainder of Silveira’s chips to secure the victory and send him home with $78,678 as runner-up.
