The World Poker Tour heads back to Montreal this October
The World Poker Tour (WPT) is making its way back to Montreal for the highly anticipated WPT Playground Festival, set to take place from October 14-30. This marks the second time this year that the WPT is returning to the Playground Poker Club in Kahnawake, following a successful event earlier in May.
WPT CEO Adam Pliska expressed his enthusiasm about returning to Playground, stating that the previous event was such a success that they were eager to bring the WPT Championship festival back for a second round this year. Players will have the chance to compete for three different WPT titles, including the prestigious honor of having their name on the Mike Sexton WPT Champions Cup.
The festival’s centerpiece is the WPT Playground Championship, which runs from October 24-30. With a buy-in of CAD3,500 (USD$2,575) and a guaranteed prize pool of CAD1.5 million (US$1.1 million), this event is expected to draw a large and competitive field. In the May edition, David Dongwoo Ko emerged victorious, taking home CAD434,900 (US$320,000) and earning his place in the WPT history books.
In addition to the main championship, the WPT Prime Playground Championship will also be featured, with a buy-in of CAD1,150 (US$845) and a prize pool guarantee of CAD800,000 (US$589,000). This event runs from October 20-25 and is anticipated to attract a significant number of entrants, much like its May counterpart, where Jikai Zhang won CAD165,070 (US$121,500).
The festival kicks off with the WPT 500 Championship event, which offers a CAD400,000 (US$295,000) guarantee. This event features six starting flights from October 14-19, leading up to the final day on October 21. The WPT 500 Championship presents yet another opportunity for players to secure a coveted WPT title.
WPT Global, the official online poker platform of the World Poker Tour, will play an integral role in the festival. The platform will host online Day 1 events for both the WPT 500 and WPT Prime Playground, allowing players to qualify for Day 2 and join the action at the live event. A variety of satellite options are also available on WPT Global, providing players with multiple avenues to enter these marquee tournaments.
Playground Poker Club’s VP of Gaming Operations, Ryan Bevens, expressed his excitement for the upcoming event, emphasizing that Playground has a rich history with the WPT, and they are eager to continue that tradition this October. The return of the WPT to Montreal is set to be a thrilling event for both players and fans alike.
