Players will see higher min-cashes across all events in the series

The World Series of Poker (WSOP) announced changes to the payout format, meaning most tournaments will have a minimum prize twice the buy-in paid for entry. The top players will see a reduced payout, while players finishing at the bottom of the scale will benefit from bigger prizes.

For example, the $1,500 Six-Handed No-Limit Hold’em event with 2,454 entries, equal to last year, would pay the winner $430,242 versus the $465,501 paid to the 2023 winner.

Less will be paid to all players finishing up to 136th place, and the prize will increase from $3,564 in 2023 to $3,650 this year. Last year’s minimum prize will be increased from $2,400 to $3,000, giving some players a chance to remain at the festival and possibly enter more tournaments.

However, the 2024 WSOP Main Event is among the events without a min-cash doubling the buy-in amount. The minimum prize at the record-breaking $10,000 buy-in 2023 Main Event was $15,000, which is where it will remain for this year’s tournament.

The biggest payout disparity will be for the top players. If the 2024 Main Event draws 10,000 entries, the winner will take home $10,000,000, second place will pay $6,000,000, and the third-place finisher will win $4,000,000. In 2023, the top three finishers earned $12,100,000, $6,500,000, and $4,000,000, respectively.

The remaining final table payouts will be higher than last year, with the difference coming from the reduced winner’s prize. Each player reaching the final table will also be guaranteed to take home a minimum prize of $1,000,000.
