This will be the fourth time the poker series has been to the Gold Coast
The World Poker Tour (WPT) is heading to Australia this September, marking its fourth visit to The Star Gold Coast. From September 12-25, poker enthusiasts can expect an exciting lineup of events, with this year’s festival being the largest yet in the country. The schedule has expanded from 16 to 23 events, so players will enjoy the most extensive poker festival in Australia for this year.
The centerpiece of the festival is the WPT Australia Championship, which features an AUD8,000 (US$5,360) buy-in. This event is highly anticipated, with players competing for a spot on the Mike Sexton WPT Champions Cup. The championship will kick off with two Day 1 flights on September 20 and 21, attracting top poker talent from around the world.
This year’s festival also includes new additions to the schedule, such as fast-paced turbo events held in the afternoon and evening, pleasing different players who prefer quicker games. Additionally, a high-stakes AUD5,000 (US$3,350) Pot-Limit Omaha (PLO) High Roller event has been introduced, offering something for every kind of poker player.
The WPT is committed to inclusivity, which is evident in the AUD $675 ($450) Ladies Australian Championship taking place from September 17-18. The winner of this event will not only claim the title but also receive a $6,000 package to compete in the WPT Ladies Championship at Wynn Las Vegas. This is a huge opportunity for women in poker to shine on a global stage.
A special highlight of the festival is the Shane Warne Legacy Perpetual Trophy Event, scheduled for September 19. This tournament honors the legendary cricketer and avid poker player, Shane Warne. Proceeds from this event will go to the Shane Warne Legacy, ensuring that his contributions to the poker world are remembered.
The WPT’s journey to The Star Gold Coast began in 2019, and the event has grown significantly since then. The previous champions include Hari Varma, David Tang, and Richard Lee, each of whom made their mark on the WPT history.
Multiple poker players from around the world gather at The Star Gold Coast next month and the stage is set for another thrilling chapter in the WPT’s history in Australia. Lee will be seen defending his title against great poker players who also want to be part of the champions of this tournament.
