Several $1M bounties have already been picked at the poker tables

The $1,000 Mystery Millions No-Limit Hold’em tournament at the World Series of Poker continues to be one of the festival’s most popular events. It offers a $1 million prize for the champion, plus bounties that aren’t revealed until players are eliminated.

The 2024 Mystery Millions event pooled $300 from each of the 18,409 entrants’ buy-ins, creating a bounty pool totaling $5,523,000. Players have a chance to win 949 total bounties of at least $1,000. Two $1 million bounties and five others of at least six figures in amounts of $100,000, $250,000, and $500,0000 are available.

On Day 2, eliminated players who had a knockout randomly pulled a bounty. If the amount was more than $25,000, they were invited to the stage to pick an envelope from the GGPoker bounty chest, where the bounties are much higher.

Valentyn Shabelnyk was the first to pick up a $1 million bounty envelope but seemed more excited to return to his table when emcee Jeff Platt tried to get a quick interview. He finished the tournament in 528th place, taking home $3,070.

D.J. Buckley was the next player to win more than $25,000 and slowly revealed his envelope from the bounty chest, showing he was a $1 million winner. While he showed more excitement than Shabelnyk, he was still somewhat reserved for someone who just secured the top prize.

When asked how he felt after pulling the $1 million envelope, Buckley said, “I feel great.” He then returned to his table, receiving congratulations from fans along the way. Buckley ended the tournament in 90th place for $8,170.
