The awards ceremony returns for its fifth year
The Global Poker Index (GPI) and The Hendon Mob collaborate again to host the fifth edition of the Global Poker Awards, where the best in the industry are honored with an awards ceremony and red carpet affair. PokerGO will host the event again, with the activities available on live stream on Saturday, February 24.
GPI announced the three awards for the 2023 Player of the Year during the first week of January. Bin Weng captured POY honors by a wide margin over Jose “Nacho” Barbero, with 5,008.99 points to Barbero’s 4,387.72. He started the year with a win at the Borgata Return Main event for $1 million and cashed a total of $6,647,556 in 2023.
Kristin Foxen won her fourth female POY award after being out of the running for the last few years. Foxen would again make it to the top with 2,970.93 points. Nadya Magnus finished second with 2,566.97 points.
The close race in the mid-major category for POY honors was won by Nick Pupillo, who finished with 2,819.77 points, over Preston McEwen, who was a close second with 2,777.98 points.
The 2023 GPI Award of Merit goes to the hit online poker reality show Game of Gold, which is loosely based on Poker After Dark. It featured various GGPoker pros and ambassadors, like Daniel Negreanu, Jason Koon, Fedor Holz, Maria Ho, Daniel Cates and David Williams. Ho was the show’s winner at the end of the season.
Most winners will be announced at the Global Poker Awards, with nominees determined by public vote. Fans can choose the winners in several categories, such as Most Entertaining Player, Best Hand, Best Trophy and Best Live Stream Production.
