The victory also includes a $10,400 seat in next year’s WPT World Championship
The 2025 World Poker Tour (WPT) World Championship wrapped up in Las Vegas, closing out a packed December that featured several massive tournament stops around the globe. When the dust settled, Schuyler Thornton stood alone at the top.
Following record fields at EPT Prague and WSOP Paradise, the final major event of the month drew 1,865 total entries, reinforcing the WPT’s place on the modern poker calendar. Thornton captured the title and a first-place payout of $2,258,856, along with a $10,400 seat in next year’s WPT World Championship. The win marked the biggest result of his career on the live tournament stage.
Thornton reached a heads-up agreement with former WPT champion Soheb Porbandarwala, ensuring both players locked up life-changing money. Porbandarwala collected $1,969,344 for his runner-up finish after another deep run at one of the tour’s flagship events.
The final table also featured Jeremy Becker, a rising name on the circuit who continues to turn heads. Becker earned a careerbest $710,000, further establishing himself as a player to watch heading into the new season.
After the win, Thornton reflected on a week that seemed to go his way at every key moment. He credited a combination of good cards, timely decisions, and momentum that carried him through the toughest stages of the tournament. The victory capped off nearly a week of high-pressure play against an elite field.
With the World Championship complete, the WPT now turns the page. The tour’s next stop is the Lucky Hearts Open in Hollywood on January 16, with more details on the early 2026 schedule expected soon.
