The Philly poker pro has proven himself in all types of poker games
Poker Hall of Fame John Hennigan recently made history by becoming one of just nine players to win at least seven World Series of Poker (WSOP) gold bracelets. Hennigan took the title and $138,296 top prize in Event #7 – $1,500 Dealer’s Choice Six-Max at the 2024 WSOP.
“Very happy to win the tournament,” Hennigan said after the big win. “The best thing about winning is not losing. It’s very satisfying to come out on top.”
Hennigan’s seven bracelets have been won by playing several different poker variations. He took the title in the $2,000 H.O.R.S.E. event for his first win in 2002 and took his second title two years later in the $5,000 Limit Hold ’em event. Hennigan also has WSOP wins in the 2016 Triple Draw 2-7 Lowball tournament, the 2018 H.O.R.S.E. event, the 2019 Stud Championship, and the 2014 $50,000 Poker Player’s Championship mixed game event.
The Philadelphia native is third on the Pennsylvania all-time money list and has almost $9.6 million in career tournament earnings, with nearly $6 million of his winnings resulting from his 50 cashes at the WSOP. Hennigan’s poker prowess is well-established. He also holds a World Poker Tour title, winning the 2007 WPT Winter Poker Open for $1.6 million.
The 2024 event attracted 530 entries, producing a prize pool of $707,550 split among the top 80 players. Several notable players ran deep in this year’s event, including Jeff Madsen (12th) and Shaun Deeb (8th).
Hennigan had almost a 6:1 chip lead against Robert Wells starting heads-up play. The final hand of No-Limit Deuce-to-Seven Single Draw Lowball went to Hennigan, with Wells earning a career-high $90,339 payday for second place.
