Playground Poker Club has once again delivered one of the biggest stops on the World Series of Poker Circuit calendar, producing the second-largest Main Event prize pool in the tour’s history. The Canadian venue continues to draw massive crowds and reinforce its reputation as a major poker destination.
The latest Main Event attracted 1,781 entries across multiple starting flights. That turnout pushed the total prize pool to more than $2.9 million, placing it ahead of every Circuit stop this year and second only to Playground’s own record from last summer.
That previous record remains the benchmark, when nearly 2,000 entries created a prize pool exceeding $3.20 million. The venue has now proven that result was no fluke, consistently pulling in large fields from across Canada and the US.
This year’s champion is set to earn $431.000, a payout close to last year’s top prize. In that event, Jacob Hobday captured the title after qualifying through a low-cost online satellite, turning a small buy-in into a life-changing score.
Tournament officials say the growth is part of a broader plan to keep expanding poker in the region. Organizers have focused on building strong guarantees and creating an experience that attracts both professionals and recreational players.
Players have taken notice, with many traveling long distances to compete. The combination of large prize pools and well-run events has made Playground a regular stop for those chasing big scores on the Circuit.
