This is the third time in just a few years that the brand has been changed
The Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) is undergoing a major rebrand, officially becoming the Major Series of Poker: The Tour. This marks the second time the MSPT acronym has evolved. When it launched in 2009, it originally stood for the Minnesota State Poker Tour before expanding and adopting the Mid-States Poker Tour name two years later. Now, with events taking place nationwide and over $206 million in prize money awarded, the rebranding reflects the tour’s growth and new vision.
While still commonly referred to as MSPT, the rebrand introduces several key changes. One of the biggest updates is the introduction of five annual MAJOR tournaments, each featuring a guaranteed prize pool of at least $1 million. These events will award a custom trophy to winners and offer a 1.5x multiplier on Player of the Year points. Victories in MAJOR tournaments will also be tracked on the MSPT leaderboard and factor into Hall of Fame eligibility.
The MSPT Hall of Fame, established in 2017, has been adjusted to reflect the tour’s expansion. With the number of Main Events increasing to 30 this year, the criteria for Hall of Fame induction have been updated. Players now need a combination of MSPT earnings, event cashes, and MAJOR wins to qualify under three tiers: Hall of Fame, Legends Club, and HOF God Mode. Those already inducted will retain their status despite the changes.
Another notable addition is the launch of the MSPT Senior Tour for players aged 50 and older. These tournaments, typically featuring buy-ins of $300 to $400, will contribute to a dedicated Senior Player of the Year leaderboard. The top player in 2025 will receive a $5,000 cash prize.
Additionally, side events with buy-ins of $200 or more will now count toward the Player of the Year race, with earnings tracked on player profiles. The full transition to the new branding will be completed by June 1, ushering in a new era for the tour.
