The casino officially inaugurated the poker room last week
Nebraska now has its first live poker room thanks to the Grand Island Casino Resort, which officially opened its doors in Grand Island. This marks a major step for the state’s gaming landscape, which until now had no legal poker rooms in operation. The facility, developed by Elite Casino Resorts in collaboration with Fonner Park, is more than just a casino—it’s a full-scale resort built to bring new entertainment options to the region.
The poker room is a key attraction, offering players a legal space to sit down at live tables and play popular games like Texas Hold’em. It gives poker fans across Nebraska a chance to enjoy the game in a professional, regulated setting without having to travel out of state. For local players, it’s the first time they can join live tournaments and cash games right at home.
The poker room is part of a larger $185 million resort project. Along with 750 slot machines and 20 table games, the property includes a 162-room hotel, several restaurants, a show lounge, and a banquet hall. Dining options range from casual to upscale, with Ruthie’s Steak & Seafood leading the way. There’s also a spa, outdoor and indoor pools, and event spaces with views of the Fonner Park horse track.
The resort has had a strong economic impact on the area, creating more than 400 permanent jobs and employing nearly 900 workers during construction. The local horse racing industry, long seen as fading, is also expected to benefit from the new casino’s presence.
Revenue from the temporary casino has already added millions to racing purses and breeder funds, and officials believe the permanent location will continue to boost both the sport and the local economy.
With poker now legally part of Nebraska’s casino offerings, the Grand Island Casino Resort opens a new chapter for players and the gaming industry across the state.
