The GGMasters 6th Anniversary missed its $10M guarantee by over $1 million
GGPoker is paying a heavy price after one of its biggest online tournaments failed to meet its promised prize pool. The GGMasters 6th Anniversary event carried a $10 million guarantee, but entries fell well short, forcing the site to cover a massive shortfall out of pocket.
When registration closed, the tournament had attracted 59,480 entries across seven Day 1 freezeout flights. That was far below the 72,464 entries needed to hit the guarantee. With a buy-in of $150, the event generated $8,922,000, leaving GGPoker to fund an overlay of $1,791,760.
That figure now stands as the largest overlay ever recorded in online poker. The result was especially painful given that similar anniversary events in 2023 and 2024 also missed their targets, despite carrying the same $10 million guarantee.
Even with the overlay, the tournament has played down to its final table. Brazilian player Ramon Kropmanns leads the remaining nine and already has more than $3 million in career winnings on GGPoker. At the other end of the chip counts is Ireland’s “dueceswild,” a player with limited prior results now guaranteed a six-figure payday.
All finalists have locked up at least $110,430, while the winner will earn $1,108,712. Play is set to resume Tuesday at 12:00 PM (ET), with the title and top prize still up for grabs.
The missed guarantee breaks the previous online overlay record held by PokerBaazi’s GOAT event in 2024. That tournament came up $1.4 million short of its guarantee. In live poker, the largest overlay remains the 2014 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open, which missed by over $2.5 million.
GGMasters began six years ago with a $300,000 guarantee and steadily grew. While bold guarantees have helped build its brand, this result shows the financial risk that comes with aiming so high.
