The Poker Hall of Famer takes home almost $1 million with his latest victory
Poker Hall of Famer Chris Moneymaker is a champion once again after besting 163 entrants to win the 2024 Triton Poker Super High Roller Series Montenegro $25,000 event. The $903,000 payout is the third biggest live cash of his career, putting him at almost $7 million in total earnings.Â
Moneymaker also earned 1,092 Card Player Player of the Year points, ranking him in the top 50 in the POY standings. “I wasn’t going to lose today. I could have put it in with any hand and I would have won. I ran pure,” said Moneymaker. “I hit a three-outer, a six-outer. I thought to myself, ‘You know what, this is going to be 2003. I’m not going to lose any more hands today.'”
Moneymaker had a slight chip lead over Biao Ding when final table action began before Isaac Haxton was sent to the rail in ninth place ($91,300), followed by Morten Kleinin in eighth ($110,500).
Lewis Spencer’s pocket threes weren’t enough to beat Moneymaker’s pocket nines, as he was sent home in seventh place ($153,000). Kim also held pocket threes in a showdown against Adrian Mateos’ pocket Jacks, but hit a set on the river to eliminate him in sixth place ($209,500).Â
Kim got another knockout on the next hand against Danilo Velasevic (fifth for $272,000) after hitting a pair of aces on the turn. Ding was eliminated in fourth place ($341,000) and Igor Yaroshevskyy fell in third ($419,000), setting up the heads-up battle between Moneymaker and Kim.Â
On the third hand, Moneymaker’s A-10 suited beat Kim’s A-8 offsuit after he hit top pair, giving the runner-up a $609,000 paycheck. Kim reached the final table at a $50,000 Triton Jeju event last month for $954,000.
