The poker room is going to be closed for a few months beginning July 17
According to a memo sent to workers at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, the venue is closing its poker room for at least the next few months as it undergoes renovations.
Caesars Entertainment owns the resort on the Las Vegas Strip and other gaming venues, such as Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas, where the 2024 World Series of Poker (WSOP) is underway.
The memo provided some details about the upcoming closure. Caesars’ 18-table poker room, located adjacent to its popular retail sportsbook, will shut down on or about July 17, although no official date for the closure has been determined.
The area reserved for high-limit slot machines will also be renovated, meaning operators must move them to another space. Senior leadership at Caesars chose to temporarily relocate them to the poker room, with the project expected to be completed within 60 to 90 days. However, “nothing has been decided or set in stone.”
The poker room’s employees, including card room staff and dealers, have concerns that the possible 2–3-month shutdown could cause some to lose their jobs. According to the company memo, “Once the plans are finalized, we will do our part to provide the team members with the information.”
A source with knowledge of the proposed renovation project states that Caesars is searching for a temporary space to house the high-limit poker room during construction. However, officials have yet to find a new area, and there are no guarantees they’ll find one before the project begins.
Caesars Palace has been one of the top poker destinations in Las Vegas for many years. Throughout this summer’s WSOP, the venue hosts various cash games and daily tournaments.
