The poker room at Resorts World Las Vegas will close on March 30
Another poker room on the Las Vegas Strip is preparing to shut down. Officials confirmed that the poker room at Resorts World Las Vegas will close on March 30, 2026. The room first opened when the resort opened in June 2021, giving poker players another option on the busy Strip.
The announcement comes shortly after another poker room closure at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino. With the Resorts World room shutting down, the number of poker rooms along the Strip will drop to eight. Across the wider Las Vegas Valley, about 17 poker rooms remain in operation.
News about the upcoming closure first circulated through local poker circles. Poker player Chris Murray, who organizes regular games at the property, shared the information online before it was officially confirmed. Resort representatives later acknowledged the decision and said the space will be used for new experiences in the future.
Poker rooms have been slowly disappearing from casinos over the past two decades. Since 2000, more than half of the poker rooms in the Las Vegas area have closed. Some experts in the industry say the main reason is financial performance compared to other casino attractions.
Unlike slot machines or traditional table games, poker is played between customers rather than against the house. Casinos collect a small commission known as a rake from each hand, which limits overall revenue potential. This makes poker less profitable compared with other gaming options that generate higher returns per square foot.
Labor costs also play a role in these decisions. Poker rooms require dealers, floor staff, and supervisors to keep games running smoothly. When profits remain modest, casinos often decide the space can be used more effectively for other amenities.
Despite these closures, large poker tournaments remain popular. Events like the World Series of Poker continue to attract thousands of players and generate major prize pools each year in Las Vegas.
