The Nashua Planning Board will vote this week on a proposal to transform a local hotel into a casino destination

An ambitious development plan to expand the Sheraton Nashua hotel by adding nearly ninety-three thousand square feet of gaming and dining space is heading to a pivotal board vote. Hospitality giant Delaware North is seeking conditional use and site plan approval to initiate the initial phase of the massive expansion project.

If authorized, the legendary castle-styled property situated near the Massachusetts state border along the Everett Turnpike will eventually undergo a transformation to house four new restaurants alongside a sprawling casino floor.

The initial phase of the construction project introduces a new two-story addition situated within the current parking lot territory and features a multi-story parking garage. This phase is designed to accommodate the full relocation of the existing Gate City Casino facility from its current industrial park setting into the renovated resort space.

Representatives for the developer emphasize that the new construction will blend modern architecture while strictly preserving the iconic medieval theme and prominent roadside presence of the landmark hotel structure.

The upcoming local vote follows previous regulatory presentations where board members requested additional details regarding regional traffic mitigation and specific drainage reports. Local support for the expansion remains remarkably strong because New Hampshire gambling regulations mandate that eligible nonprofit organizations receive 35% of daily house gaming proceeds. Management reports that the existing casino facility generated $7.1 million in 2025 and has contributed over $20 million to local charities since 2022.

The finished venue will be rebranded as the Gate City Casino Hotel and will ultimately boost its electronic gaming capacity up to 700 machines. The addition of full-scale operations and the accompanying dining options will also generate roughly 290 permanent employment opportunities for the region.

Following the initial rollout next year, a second phase slated for 2030 will finalize the grand expansion by constructing additional gaming floor spaces and parking stalls.
