The Illinois Gaming Board has approved a four-year license renewal for the casino
Regulators in Illinois have officially extended the operating authority for Hard Rock Casino Rockford, granting a four-year license renewal during a meeting held on April 23. This decision is retroactive to January 2026 and marks a continued commitment to the facility, which serves as the eleventh casino in the state.
As the first venue authorized under the historic gaming expansion legislation passed in 2019, the Rockford location represents a cornerstone of the state’s modernized gambling landscape. The renewal ensures that the facility can continue its contributions to the local economy and the broader gaming industry through the end of the decade.
The permanent site for the casino celebrated its grand opening on August 29, 2024, following a successful transition from a temporary structure that had been in use since late 2021. Construction on the expansive permanent venue began in late 2022 after the project secured the necessary regulatory clearances.
Since moving into the new 175,000-square-foot space, the casino has become a major hub for entertainment and hospitality in the region. The recent vote by the board confirms that the operator, 815 Entertainment, LLC, has met the stringent suitability requirements and compliance standards mandated by state law.
In addition to the primary renewal for the Rockford facility, the board used the April session to address various other regulatory matters across the state. Officials approved several renewals for casino suppliers and issued new licenses for video gaming and sports wagering operations.
Financial reports from the start of the year indicate that the industry remains a robust source of revenue, with Illinois casinos and video terminals generating millions in tax contributions. Specifically, recent data showed that gaming activities across the state resulted in $429 million for the state and $73 million for local municipalities, underscoring the significant fiscal impact of these licensed establishments.
