Cryptocurrency political action committees successfully swayed state primary races through massive media spending

Cryptocurrency industry-backed political action committees (PAC) helped drive a wave of victories for both Democratic and Republican candidates during Tuesday’s state primary elections. Affiliated groups Protect Progress and Defend American Jobs poured a combined $3.5 million into targeted advertisements across California, New Jersey and South Dakota.

This aggressive spending blitz secured crucial primary wins for a large slate of congressional hopefuls, including Representatives Ted Lieu and Zoe Lofgren. The multimillion-dollar intervention highlights the digital asset sector’s growing willingness to deploy its massive financial war chest to build a cooperative legislative block in Washington.

The recent primary victories directly reflect a highly coordinated strategy masterminded by Fairshake, which is a prominent super PAC heavily financed by industry titans Coinbase and Ripple Labs. Fairshake entered the current election cycle boasting a formidable $193 million war chest dedicated entirely to supporting candidates who favor rolling back rigid oversight.

This strategy follows a highly lucrative intervention in the recent Texas runoff primaries, where crypto-backed funding successfully unseated long-time incumbent Representative Al Green. Industry advocates targeted Green specifically due to his historic opposition to major federal frameworks like the GENIUS Act.

The digital asset industry is already shifting its immense financial focus toward upcoming primary contests scheduled for June 23 in Maryland and New York. Federal Election Commission filings indicate that Protect Progress has already deployed more than $3.1 million to bolster Democratic candidate Adrian Boafo in Maryland’s 5th congressional district.

Simultaneously, sector leaders announced the creation of Defend Developers, a new hybrid PAC designed to protect digital asset builders from federal enforcement actions. This unprecedented level of corporate campaign spending has drawn sharp criticism from consumer advocacy groups, who warn that deep-pocketed special interest groups are effectively purchasing federal financial policy.
