The cryptocurrency company has become a major “disruptor” as it shapes crypto policy
Coinbase has been named to TIME’s 100 Most Influential Companies of 2025 list, earning recognition in the “Disruptor” category for its leadership in shaping crypto policy and driving innovation in digital finance. The crypto exchange has stood out this year not only for its strong financial performance but also for its expanding influence in regulatory discussions and global market development.
The company’s stock has surged around 42% year-to-date, with a sharp jump following the Senate’s approval of the GENIUS stablecoin bill on June 17. Coinbase shares rose from $303 to a local high of $382 after the news broke. TIME noted the exchange’s growing presence in Washington, D.C., where it has played a key role in pushing for pro-crypto legislation.
In May, Coinbase reached a milestone by becoming the first crypto-focused firm added to the S&P 500 index. This move further cemented its status as a leading player in both the crypto space and the broader financial industry. The company’s inclusion reflects growing mainstream acceptance of digital assets and points to increased confidence in crypto-related businesses.
Coinbase continues to expand its global footprint. On June 20, it received regulatory approval to offer crypto services across the European Union under the MiCA framework. The license, granted by Luxembourg’s financial regulator, allows Coinbase to set up its EU headquarters in the country, giving it a solid base for further European growth.
Domestically, Coinbase is working with the US Securities and Exchange Commission on potential plans to introduce tokenized stock trading, a move that could place it in direct competition with platforms like Robinhood. President Donald Trump’s recent remarks at the Coinbase State of Crypto Summit also hinted at future policy changes that could benefit the industry.
With regulatory progress and global growth on the horizon, Coinbase’s influence in the crypto world only seems to be growing.
