The ability to predict a pitcher’s performance in terms of strikeouts can be a valuable tool for bettors, but it requires a deep understanding of both the pitcher and the opposing team’s offensive tendencies.
One of the first factors to consider is the pitcher’s individual strikeout rate, typically measured by strikeouts per nine innings (K/9). This statistic reveals how often a pitcher strikes out batters relative to the number of innings they pitch. A pitcher with a high K/9, such as 9 or 10 strikeouts per nine innings, tends to be more of a strikeout pitcher and is more likely to exceed his strikeout prop.
Another important factor is the pitcher’s matchup. Some teams have a high strikeout rate, meaning their batters are more prone to swinging and missing, while others are more disciplined at the plate.
