Sunday Recap: The Dog Days Bring Big Paydays

The dog days of summer are here, but there was nothing sleepy about the action yesterday. Another packed tournament slate brought big guarantees, strong fields, and plenty of impressive payouts, giving players lots to chase from the first deal to the final hand.  Keep reading our August 9th Sunday Recap to see what you might have missed.

Phil’s Thrill

Phil’s Thrill brought the biggest buy-in of the Sunday lineup, with 51 entries putting $510,000 in play at $10,300 apiece. Only seven spots were paid, making the battle for a cash especially unforgiving, while the top two finishers walked away with six-figure scores. Phil was back in the mix as well this week, ultimately finishing 25th.

When the dust settled, these three occupied the top spots:

2. kingqueensuited -> $102,000
3. OutFoxenYou -> $81,600

$200,000 GTD (Run Up #131)

Run Up #131 pulled in a four-figure field on Sunday, with 1,042 entries taking their shot at the $215 buy-in event. A total of 136 players reached the money from the $208,400 prize pool, and the eventual winner turned that relatively modest entry point into a payday of more than $40k.

The top three results were:

$300,000 GTD The Sunday Banana

The Sunday Banana drew 302 entries at $1,050 each, putting $302,000 in play and paying 36 spots. The payouts got especially ripe near the top of the tree, with first place worth just over $70k and the runner-up collecting more than $51k. By that point, there was little room for anyone to slip up.

$500,000 GTD Sunday High Roller

The Sunday High Roller delivered one of the strongest turnouts of the featured events, attracting 919 entries despite its $630 buy-in. That produced a $551,400 prize pool with 110 paid places, but the most interesting development came at the business end of the tournament. A final-table deal altered the top payouts, leaving the first three finishers separated by only around $5k.

The deal helped produce a tightly packed top three:

2. Cordialement -> $82,448
3. Kascerato -> $81,278

$300,000 GTD The Sunday Moneymaker

The Sunday Moneymaker, named after ACR Pro Chris Moneymaker, once again brought out the crowds. Its $109 buy-in attracted 3,026 entries, easily making it the largest field among these five featured Sunday tournaments. With 383 players paid from the $302,600 prize pool, there was plenty of competition between the starting line and the $47k-plus top prize.

These three made it all the way to the top:
