The Caribbean country is now ready to expand its online casino market
The Dominican Republic’s Ministry of Finance has issued a new resolution to regulate online gambling. The proposal specifies the conditions, administration fees and minimum standards for operators seeking to acquire a license.
Resolution 136-2024 would authorize online games of chance and sports betting, which would be regulated by the Directorate of Casinos and Games of Chance. The document states that the licensing fee for online casino operators will be DOP 20,473,481 ($346,000), while sports betting providers will be required to pay DOP 15,355,111 ($260,000).
Another license “for other online applications” is also available for DOP 10,236,740 ($173,000). In addition, licenses are valid for five years and non-transferable for the first three years.
The process to legalize online gaming in the Dominican Republic has been diligent since it started on February 28, 2024. A recommendation was sent by the Casino Commission to the Minister of Finance to issue the resolution that would regulate Internet gaming in the country.
The 36-page regulation containing seven chapters and 36 articles was signed by Minister José Manuel Vicente. The first chapter outlines the conditions applicants must meet to operate in the country (article 5). It describes the Internal Control Procedures Manual, gaming platform requirements, administrative fees and operating requirements (article 8).
The resolution also details relevant aspects of the licensing approval process and the security and operational elements of betting and gaming in compliance with Article 27. Operators are required to implement a responsible gaming program that must provide self-exclusion for players.
