The Finnish player has now earned over $1 million in live poker action
Finnish players have represented their country well at the 2024 PGT PLO Series, winning two of the four tournaments completed on the 10-event schedule. Eelis Parssinen defended his title in the $7,600 PLO bounty event, followed by Samuli Sipila, who won the $10,100 buy-in Pot-Limit Omaha (PLO) event for his first PokerGO title and a career-high payday of $240,300.
13 players would cash at the event, with six advancing to the final day from the PokerGO Studio at ARIA Resort & Casino Las Vegas. Arthur Morris was the chip leader on Day 2, with Sipila in second.
Sipila would close the gap early after knocking out Artem Maksimov ($44,500) in sixth place, while Arthur Morris doubled up short stack Andre Cruz, who would soon bust in fifth place ($62,300) to recover from a brief slump.
Bracelet winner Christopher Frank ($80,100) was next to the rail in fourth place after going all in with two pair vs. Sipila’s flush and gutshot straight draws, which would both hit.
The lead changed several times during three-handed play before Sipila took a big pot from Morris that left him short-stacked. He would push in his remaining stack with a pair and gutshot draw, but Sipila’s overpair would win the pot, sending Morris home with $111,250 for third place.
The exciting heads-up battle between Sipila and Stefan Christopher saw Sipila eventually win a big pot to take a substantial lead. Christopher would go all-in with king-high against Sipila’s pair of jacks but got no help as his opponent secured the pot and the title. Christopher earned $155,750 for second place and his largest career tournament score.
This was Sipila’s third recorded tournament win, all in PLO events, putting him at $1,012,911 in lifetime earnings.
