The Washington resident earned his first WSOP bracelet after a long final battle
Jared Kingery, a longshoreman from Washington, took home his first World Series of Poker (WSOP) gold bracelet after battling for three days in Event #44: $2,000 No-Limit Hold ’em. Kingery defeated Javier Gomez heads-up to earn the $410,359 top prize, with Gomez winning $273,581 for second place.
The field of 1,561 players created a prize pool of $2,778,580 as Kingery finally got over the hump after nearly securing his first bracelet at the 2022 $500 buy-in Housewarming event. 17 players returned for Day 3 of the tournament, with several notable players exiting in the first level, including Michael Berk, Dillon Najor, Barry Shulman, and Edgard Saliba, who all took home $18,095.
Huihan Wu was eliminated by Juan Carlos Vecino just ahead of the final table bubble, reducing the field to ten. Gomez maintained his chip lead and continued his domination by sending Nicholas Massey (10th for $28,192) and Jon Glendinning (9th for $35,873) to the rail.
Kavin Shah (7th for $60,317) increased his stack after knocking out Narcis Nedelcu (8th for $46,227) but was eliminated by Gomez several hands later. Yunkyu Song moved up in the chip count after eliminating Yasheel Doddanavar (6th for $79,676), then doubling up against Javier Zarco (5th for $106,537) to end his tournament.
Kingery took several more pots to take a massive chip lead before winning a flip against Vecino (4th for $144,176). Song then fell against Kingery’s ace-king to finish the day in third place for $197,443. It took just a few minutes before Gomez and Kingery pushed all the chips in the middle, with the champion’s ace-queen taking the deciding pot against his opponent’s ace-jack.
