The first-ever Hendon Mob tournament in the US proves to be a great success
Jagdeep Bal emerged victorious in an eight-way chop deal after navigating his way through a massive field of 1,605 entries on Day 2 of The Hendon Mob Mid-Major Championship at Thunder Valley Casino on Sunday. He won a career-best $71,036, as well as The Hendon Mob Trophy and a RunGood Poker Series (RGPS) ring.
203 players returned to action on Day 2 and were all guaranteed a piece of the $834,600 prize pool. Many players were quickly eliminated as the day progressed, including notables like Jeff Platt (123rd – $1,295), Tyler Patterson (102nd – $1,425), Harley Brooks (95th – $1,495), and current GPI Mid-Major Player of the Year Stephen Song (57th – $1,885).
The action didn’t slow down even after the field was narrowed down to the final two tables. Aggressive players Joe Nguyen (13th – $7,905) and Tony Barrera (12th – $10,240) were eliminated before the pace of the game finally slowed down. Borui Zhang was eliminated in tenth place ($13,740) by Mujkic, who doubled his stack after Zhang lost a large portion of his.
Thomas Morris was the short stack at the final table before moving all in with ace-jack and was called by Hong Moon, who was holding ace-queen. Morris wouldn’t improve after the queen-ten-ten flop and finished in ninth place as the first to go to the rail.
The average stack became 15 big blinds at the start of Level 31, as the remaining players considered an ICM chop deal. The players took a vote after the chips were counted and payout numbers generated and unanimously voted in favor of a chop.
