The biggest WSOP Main Event to date comes to an exhilarating climax
The 2023 World Series of Poker (WSOP) has wrapped up the biggest event in the history of the series. The $10,000 No Limit Hold ’em Main Event event took place at the Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas, with 10,043 entries. Daniel Weinman surprised everyone by beating his opponents for his second WSOP bracelet and the $12.1-million top prize.
Weinman changed up his style of play with every shot at the final table and was lucky not to get caught. The champion has reportedly racked up over $15.8 million in live poker winnings, including two World Poker Tour (WPT) titles. Weinman not only won the cash and a bracelet but also collected 3,600 POY (Player of the Year) points, improving his ranking in this year’s POY competition to 19th place. The win also earned him 2,300 PokerGO Tour (PGT) Points, which helped propel him into first place in the standings.
Weinman had the second-most chips to start the final day, with Adam Walton the short stack with 83 big blinds. Steven Jones raised to 6,000,000 chips with QD, 6D on the button with blinds of 1,250,000-2,500,000, and a big blind ante of 2,500,000. Walton called from the small blind with 8-8, then Weinman raised to 27,000,000 from the big blind with pocket Aces, causing Jones to fold.
Walton then pushed in a four-bet of 209,500,000, and Weinman snap-called with his pocket aces to eventually take the big pot. Walton finished in third place, winning $4 million.
At the start of heads-up play, Weinman had a massive lead of 283,500,000 chips over Jones, taking just 24 hands to wrap up his biggest career win. Jones took home a second-place prize of $6.5 million.
